In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? A list of conventions that are used on the front covers of music magazines:

One existing magazine that influenced the construction of my magazine: NME (and Kerrang!)

How does my media product represent particular social groups?
By viewing this moodboard, you get the overall impression that people who like rock may dress rather ruggedly because the main colours you can see here are black and grey. The primary audience consists of 13-17 year old rock fans who enjoy going to concerts as my mood board suggests, so advertising up-and-coming gigs in my magazine was a good way to attract this audience. The secondary audience consists of older rock fans who may like some of the bands featured in my magazine; although the language is fairly basic and informal, some of the artists may grab their interest. Overall, my magazine represents the audience of rock fans as rugged and wild, and this moodboard has helped me adapt the style of the primary/secondary audience into the photographs I've used in my magazine, i.e. dark clothes, hair and make-up.

The social groups reading this magazine are also portrayed as domineering and perhaps slightly gloomy because of the amount of black used. The paintbrush-style typefaces for the titles as well as a variety of typefaces within the texts (particularly on the contents page) also connotes that the teenage rock audience are fairly crazy and fun-loving.

What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why?
My first choice of publisher would probably be IPC Media. This is because it's one of the leading consumer magazine and digital publishers in the UK which sells over 350 million copies of their magazines annually. Since its printed products alone reach 42% of UK women and alomst two thirds of men, this shows that Electric will be published by a well-known, trustworthy industry whom can also help with advertising the magazine. Advertisement will be cheaper and more widespread with help from such a large company, and additionally they publish other similar music magazines such as NME and Guitar & Bass so will have experience of publishing.
